Boro are made to toil against old enemy Aug 28 2008
DERBY games are notoriously uninspired affairs - and this one will not help to change that reputation.Boro will say they had the better of the few opportunities but in windy conditions both teams were blown off course. The Greenbacks defended well, particularly centre-backs Danny Pitham and Ben Thack-eray, and were worthy of their share of the spoils. Defences dominated the opening half in front of 1,200-plus fans.DreadfulBedworth’s Tristan Kabango sliced wide before team-mate Kieron Fitzharris survived with just a booking after a dreadful challenge on Rob Oddy, who soon limped out of the action.Jamie Williams’s 20-yarder flew just over from Boro’s most meaningful effort of the period while the first shot on target was Simeon Williams’s 25-yarder for United that was easily pouched by Darren Acton, making his 250th appearance for the club.At the opposite end a fine interception by Neil Lazarus foiled Mark Noon’s efforts to set up Rob Foster while 90 seconds after the break Noon’s free-kick slipped through Andy Kemp’s grasp but wide of the far post. The tempo increased as Boro enjoyed their best spell. Guy Hadland was too high with a volley and Stefen McGrath’s through-pass released Ramsay but his cross shot was blocked by the advancing Andy Kemp.Acton had to move sharply to foil Simeon Williams’s attempts to capitalise on a poor Neil Moore back-header but Boro were back on the offensive and only Lazarus’s goal-line clearance denied Derek Brown’s header finding the mark.Kemp then saved from McGrath’s 20-yarder and Boro’s Danny Williams was fortunate to stay on the pitch after barging over Paul Spacey. In the dying seconds Foster raced clear and slotted wide of Kemp only for substitute Matt Lee to chase back and clear off the line and secure the Greenbacks a worthy point.
